Survivors Week V
HA HA HA HA!!!! That was the response to jess' entry. Sorry I cannot help but laugh all the way! Poor you! You sound like you are so so poor and measly paid. But please don’t complain about your allowance. Psst, it’s called allowance. Not pay. Bear that in mind. You are an intern and so you are given allowance. And before you complain about being paid SGD500 please consider getting RM400 a month? Thank you. Sigh, I wished that we could go shopping together. Can you believe it that U2 and G2000 here in KL is so freaking expensive? Even after discounts, I cannot afford to buy. That is how poor I am. Sigh. And in Singapore, I will have no qualms over it.
---
Chatting with fy over msn now. Yes, she's NOT asleep yet. Ha Ha Ha. And she mentioned that she sent me a card and asked if I've gotten it. The building's all dark now and I daren't go down to check the mailbox. :s Will go down the first thing when I wake up tomorrow. Which sets me thinking, what time will I wake up?
---
I'd agree with pw's "and hey, if you really do continue on after your internship, you'll be wishing you hadn't." But if I was in fy's shoes, bearing that in mind, I'd still take up the offer. Afterall, you've to work and what is a few weeks or a month more as compared to the 3 months of "torture" with the company? Plus, you get experience. Serious experience!! And pw, I envy you. You see your work displayed up and used. Remember to add that into your portfolio. Nice. Neat. Me don't even have a full stop to show off. Sighs!
The previous intern before me dropped by during lunchtime just now. She was so warmly welcomed and well-liked. While I am quietly trying to make myself look busy by researching on some stuffs. I am just not myself. Whole day so quiet, feel a little uncomfortable. Prior to internship, I aspired to be a super intern. But now, i just want to be an intern. Period.
As for the graduation ball, pw, the answer is YES! :P Price is $70. Yupp, read it off 02's blog. fy, GO! GO! GO! hahahhaah I am feeling sleepy. Eyelids fighting hard to open. I want to sleep!! Forgive me if my thoughts aren't organised and well-thought out.
Oh and I must mention this: I found out my supervisor's residential address. :P pw, what are you going to say this time? Don't roll your eyes! I found out unintentionally. The Cali Fitne$$ form was on the public folder and I only peeked into it and it was -Oh My God-. He lives at the same condo as my buddy, next block!! The journey to office is about 20mins with smooth traffic, going at 100kmph. Imagine the morning jam. And he reaches by 9 a.m. Must have woke up super early!! And got his birthdate. :P He's 35, pw.
Ok, I want to sleep. Mind in whirlwind. Modd affected by a friend. Hmmph!! Shoot her!!!
wei pw, give more encouragement leh
by the way what time is it? nite time? u all going?
actually i'm not really very keen to go.. but if all of u going, i dun mind..
pw, seems like your "shi2 li4" is slowly being recognised le.. cannot complain nothing to do already rite?
single status is a fact mah. i dun mean anything else leh.. why u want to slap me??
hmm.. wat u said not very encouraging leh, always spill cold water.. very sad one u noe? can talk more positively or not?
9 march i off work at 1pm.where u all want to have lunch?
friday craze
oh ya peiwen, i saw the grad ball thingy in 02's blog (shhh...)
if i did remember correctly, i think it's $70 ?!
and oh, the theme is Moulin Rouge.
So, you guys still wanna go?
if so, maybe we can also book a hotel or chalet...
let's have lots and lots and lots of fun and
not forgetting, taking photos as memories;)
jess, your post was funny.
i guess that's one of the unlucky days that you had.
be glad that you were able to leave early thou :) hehehe
any of you guys plan to change phone?
Saw the Singtel is promoting its 3logy (3G) plans and phones.
Sounds great, esp with free whatever etc!
grad ball
details:
20th April
Pan Pacific Hotel
Theme: Moulin Rouge
i think there should be a ticket price or something but somehow val has left that out. haha, maybe it's really expensive? i dunno, but let's go ok? it'll be like a farewell thing! yeah fy, maybe this is the farewell thing you're thinking of. haha.
anyways, jess' post made me laugh! haha, so poor thing, when you get your pay you must go shopping! haha, you must have worn your blouse and shoes too often lah, they're protesting already.
well i guess what the lecturers' said are coming true, workload will definitely increase while we progress into our internship. more and more colleagues are giving me work, and while i started from simple won't-go-wrong stuff like copywriting, i now also do project management (something like account servicing), search engine marketing, translating webpages (to korean! haha). it's kinda gratifying to see your work being displayed -- like my copy being used for a client's web banner and the sponsored links appearing on google. haha. quite fun lah.
and fy, you're always pointing out our single status right? be thankful you're not within range otherwise you would have gotten a slap on your arm. haha. hope you kena during your technical support on monday. hahahahhahahahahah.
and hey, if you really do continue on after your internship, you'll be wishing you hadn't. haha, that's always the case isn't it? if i didn't know you, i'd think you're smittten by your supervisor a la mr lee. haha. heeheee.
let's meet for lunch on the 9th (not at fc6)! too bad it's not a half day. oh, soeaking of which, i don't have to go to work today, and yesterday too! so lucky right? they're taking a company trip to hongkong so i get a long weekend. but i still have work though, my director gave me a deadline for some search engine marketing. :(
nobody comes here anymore?
thanks jess! for trying to "de-stagnantize the blog" :p
wah jess, u sound very pathetic leh, ur shoes and clothes falling apart.. think it's time u go shopping for clothes and shoes le, we still have 2 more months to endure leh.. u cannot go to work everyday like that right? :p
hmm.. things are starting to be quite busy for me recently. very soon i'll be working till late hours of the night. As WGS is drawing near, we as IT department has to provide extended technical support to the rest of the departments. so everyone of us take turns to stay back till 9pm everyday. except for the boss lah. he is the second level of support, anything very bad we cannot handle on our own, just call him back :p
i'm really terrified of this technical support thing. so far i haven't had my turn yet. but we had a training few days before and i din noe what he was talking about half of the time! (sy: yah i noe, ASK rite? but u are not here in my situation leh, u dun understand..) all the interns are so computer savvy.. the TP intern told me dun ever let my boss find out that i noe nothing abt computer, coz she was "shoot" by him when he knew she noe nothing abt computer despite being an IT student. but i'm NOT! (anyway, to his great disbelief, my boss has found out that i'm a media and communication student) What is a media and comm student doing in an IT department??
i think the whole company sees our department as The Great Problem-Solver. printer cannot print, toner needs to be changed, accidentally deleted files, cannot receive emails, paper jam, cannot read CD-R.. etc etc. All problems big and small. u name it, we solve it.
during meeting yesterday (we have weekly meetings to update the boss what we have completed and what we are currently doing) my boss asked if we want to stay and help out for WGS. val's boss has already asked her and she has declined. but my boss is keeping options open and we can tell him our decision anytime. and u noe what, i actually am considering. haha dun ask me why.
besides editing video, i'm assigned to another job: updating of E-Newsletter. i'm balancing time with premiere and dreamweaver, plus other stuff like sorting out contracts etc. that's enough to keep me busy for the next 2 weeks.
actually my boss is quite nice. yes, nice. can say that he's quite kind too. "it takes time to really know a person". i feel that this is very true..
i feel that he's just putting up a nasty front so that things will get done much faster. maybe he was too nice a supervisor in the past that ppl took advantage. i dunno.
basically, he's quite friendly. just that when it comes to work, he has high expectations. To him, interns have to perform as well as the staff. he doesn't believe in asap, he wants a date to everything. he has his way of making things work. Somehow i feel that he is showing his concern through this kind of harshness towards us. he sees us as a team and he is responsible for each and everyone of us. he said that when the event is drawing near, everyone in the company will be so stressed out that they lose their temper and get irritated easily. if anyone takes advantage of us or abuses us, don't retaliate at that point of time. just tell him and he'll settle the scores after the whole thing. anything just let him noe and he'll do the "fighting" for us. felt quite touched by what he said. maybe that's why i'm considering to extend my stay with the company. but i'm still not decided yet. half of me wants to get out of the company asap while the half is telling me to stay for the experience. hmm.. let's just see how things go along..
So, how's everyone getting on? somehow LQ and YH have disappeared, are they lost in the river of L.O.V.E? haha looks like only those who are stuck on the banks of singleness have the time to post here. and it seems that most of the time i'm the one who always tell old grandmother's tales :p
Hmm.. care to meet up? or we shall just see each other on 9 March? maybe we can arrange something when we meet on msn one of these days?
sy, thanks for the message! was very touched :) but i wasn't staying back for technical support that day, my duty is next mon :p

clothes falling apart sia...
When at work, I was in mental block and only after lunch did i churn out some ideas for a not-so-new concept la... Phew! Managed to get those ideas out directly before the creative director came into the office and called me for a meeting... When i stood up, heard this 'clog clog' sound coming from my shoes... looked down..
HORROR!!!!
my soles were actually 3/4 detached from the (er..) shoe's top part!! from the back, it looks like: gaping alligator. So i grabbed so sticky tape off the creative department's work table and stuck the shoe together..... However, somehow the tape(and its the expensive type of tape) was not only very UNdurable, it made audible squishing noises.... So.... yup... walked into the meeting.. "squish squish squish* i shall just dieee...
well, at least sitting down at the meeting with scotch taped squishing shoes and safety pinned blouse (at crucial parts) might give my employees the idea that 500 bucks per month is actually a measly amount.... and thus reduce my work time!! the fact that i refill my teacup several times fold to make use of all the taste of my cheapo teabag shd reinforce that idea...

buzzzzzzzzzzz
fy, your post is very meaningful. "wouldn't it be better if we just spend a little bit more time to reflect on ourselves??.." That is so true! We often expect so much from others of the same thing yet expects nothing from ourselves for the same thing!
Today was really busy for me. Did not even had time to go toilet. And nearly skipped lunch. It was when my cubicle mate came back from meeting that we went for lunch. The lunch was fruitful. I found out some info about t. Hee hee!! And how the agency works. And the politics and the players and their behaviour and their leadeship qualities. :P I made sure I dug lotsa info!!
I really look forward to the day my internship ends. Or rather, after my stay with Creative Dept which is about 2 months from now. Because, from there, everything will be faster. Each stay with the other departments will only be a short while, a week and in Studio and Traffic, only 5 days.
Oh, everyone. I proudly announce and pride myself as one who can now stand cigarette smoke flying into her face. Previously, I cannot take this sh*t and will retaliate aggressively. But after the dinner yesterday, after bathing in cigarette smoke, I proudly announce that I am highly tolerant of them. I made sure I learnt some useful things. And this is one of them. So duh....!!
People, let's just endure for another 2 months. Though to me it seems long and far. I've learnt to stand back again after falling due to the recent stupid CD issue. It was literally in BITS AND PIECES alright! That I could not believe my eyes either.
Endure, endure, endure!!!!!
finally!
i wasn't very close to hkl in school, that much is obvious right? we often greeted her much differently from how we greeted pingndoris, rajan or even lll; but i guess at this point in time, any lecturer from dmc would be warmly welcomed! (i think) not trying to say that we didn't welcome hkl in the past, of course.
anyways, she met my supervisor, had a chat about Vintedge and what kind of business we do, about how i'm settling in, mundane stuff. halfway through the conversation it suddenly dawned on me that it felt very very much like a parent-teacher meeting! scary eh?
but what was even weirder was that my supervisor looked sooo nervous! i think perchance he had this deep-rooted fear of teachers or persons of authority when he was younger, a distraught experience maybe? lol. i wanted so very much to ask him, "mr ho, are you very nervous? don't be! hkl is very harmless!" hahaha.
today marks the end of our first month! we should celebrate! but i think we already did. on wednesday. haha.

just some thoughts...
i realised that ppl somehow have double standards. they expect a lot from others, but when it comes to themselves regarding the same issue, naturally their expection will drop to a minimum. is this human nature? rather than spend so much time picking out others' faults, wouldn't it be better if we just spend a little bit more time to reflect on ourselves??..

randomness
my lo also hasn't came down to visit.. just out of curiousity, will sy's lo really be visiting? her office in kl leh! oyar.. my lo isn't doris anymore!!! its AA!! wah... not that aa isn't a good lo la... but den seeing nga appear at the office definitely more comforting than seeing aa la.. XD

ms kwa is coming to visit me tomoro :)
has any of your LO visited anyone of u already? i see the 2 TP interns' lecturer visited them two weeks ago and the LO of the other 2 SP interns came today. Finally ms kwa is coming tomoro!
the other 2 SP interns in my department are in multimedia course. one of them is top 5% of their cohort leh, so powerful..
looking forward to seeing all of u on wed :)

Happiest week!
hmm.. if given a choice i would study here than go overseas ar. i'm not one who can live independantly, i need my family and frens to be around me. hmm.. u all might not agree (esp sy who feels that every chance is an opportunity not to be missed :p)
as for the $$ problem, i guess it's quite beyond ur control. if u really want to go for it, i think there are other means available, for eg loans, scholarships etc. but i guess all parents want the best for their children, so even if ur mum says this now, i think when the time comes she'll do her best to let u pursue what u want :)
hey, this is a VERY VERY happy week for me :) only worked on mon and half day on tues. feel really HAPPY!
actually, i'm quite lucky. my big boss said it's the first time in 8 yrs that the company is closed for so many days. hee hee :p
hey cut6 (esp jess!), i have lots of chinese new year goodies at home leh. how i wish i can bring to sch and share with u all. well, maybe i can bring to office and share with colleagues.. but we already have a lot of chinese new year foodstuff there.. but nobody really has the time and mood to eat them.. so, i shall just keep all the junk food to myself and eat till silly.. haha :p
sorry leh, for my moody-ness on sat. went back to sch really got a lot of mixed feelings. like got a lot to say, but somehow can't really express myself.. for eg when we saw rajan. suddenly feel like telling him a lot of things.. but somehow i din say much.. wanted to tell ms kwa all abt my company too, but all i could say was "okay" (was shocked to know that she reads this blog, but she said she's too busy to read it now..)
actually, i'm beginning to get used to my company already. it's not that bad if i :
1. look at it more positively
2. dun compare with the rest of u all :p
and my fren said that this might be a good thing for me coz after this internship, anywhere i go i will most prob find it much nicer. haha.. i guess this is true :p
strangely, my German boss and manager have been quite kind to me these 3 weeks. maybe i'm quite new and haven't done anything wrong yet.. (seeing the way they shout at employees, i really hope i dun get the same treatment) surprisingly, my manager did not even raise his voice at all when talking to me. u noe, he can be very loud and sarcastic at times. to staff and to interns as well. but all he told me was to speak up and let him noe if anyone bullied me (i guess it pays to reach early for work everyday, he hates ppl who comes late! :p) i hope he can be this nice to me till i finish my internship..
actually that day i really hoped we can go for lunch together. but seemed that u all have ur own plans. and pw dun wan to go wif me coz i was too moody.. hmm, i'm really sorry abt that, pw.
i think i shall stop here now. till next time, take care, cut6! :)
Oh, well!
Firstly, being the eldest, I am taught to give in to my sisters and subsequently sacrifice for them. As the "da-jie" of the family (if you remember, I have sooo many siblings after me), I have learnt to naturally sacrifice certain aspects of my life. One such is education. I have spent too much of my parent's money due to my foolishness before poly and thus, I have to make full use of poly and make sure I get reasonable results. Of course, I'd prefer to get my degree first as I'm afraid of the lack of motivation after working 3 years. However, I know I cannot because of the huge amount of deposit my parents have to lay down for the S'pore government. Plus, the school fees they've to squeeze to put me through uni. All these don't come cheap.
I understand your "pek chek-ness" with you sister. "Why can't she just be more accomodating and spare a thought for me!!??" You must be screaming inside. Well, the advantage of being the eldest is parents give you almost anything you want, you wish for. I realized that some 2 years ago. It's easy to say "Pa, I need money for this. It's essential to get me better results, yada yada yada." I am not saying I use this tactic but I've come to realize that it's really easy to press your parents for items that you want as compared to the younger sibling. Christine was not very happy when I got my laptop. :P But I explained to her la! So, it was easy for your sis to upgrade her room to single occupancy.
I suppose your parents did not explain to her that they still need to support you for your further education. I think they need to because that is when your sis will understand that your parents ain't bottomless pit. And she HAS to spare a thought for you.
Cheer up, ok? Things may not be that bad after all. Perhaps you can talk to your mum and tell her that (eg) a degree in Australia uni will cost the same as a degree in NUS/ NTU because you get exemption over at Down Under.
So, chill, babe! May the year of rooster bring luck, prosperity, wealth, joy, happiness and health to ALL of us and our dear ones!! ;D
Miss you five to bits!
gong hei fatt choy!
ok. so how was Chinese New Year for you guys? i'm back at work, yes i know majority of cutsix are still visiting relatives today, and the downside is that you guys will just eat and eat and eat. hahahaha. fy, don't eat so much junk food!
cny wasn't very fun, somehow the visiting is becoming tedious and, contrary to popular belief, collecting red packets is not as exhilarating as adults would like to think. i mean, it's just $6.
(you guys want to visit my mom? she's giving at least $8 this year, i would know, i packed the ang pows -winks- but bedok a bit far hor.)
mum got pretty pissed off yesterday. i was telling my sister i am only concentrating on applying to overseas universities and applications to ntu and smu were simply to pacify my mother, if she wants me to apply then i apply lor, make her happy a bit lah. well she overheard all that. i wasn't keeping myself soft anyways.
think this (further education) problem is bound to come up sooner or later. mum says she doesn't have enough in cpf if i want to go overseas, but a four-bloody-year B Comm Studies isn't cheap here either! plus, i can't help but feel part of the blame goes to my sister, who has to repeat a semester due to indulging in too much CCAs and forwarding a lot of modules twice. hello, an entire semester sets you back by at least $6000. not fair to me right? i studied my ass off (ok not quite) in poly so why can't you do the same in university? and you persuaded my parents to upgrade you to a single room using some lame ass excuse like my roomate always stay up late at night (heard of compromising not?). why you cannot try being more considerate but i have to try being more accommodating?
walau, i'm always the suay one.
anyways, happy chinese new year cutsix! :)

yippee!
then i was complaining about no work, well, these few days i had enough to keep me busy the whole day.
but i guess it's also because this colleague was on medical leave so i got to replace her...
life's pretty good. the manager gave us all mei zhen xiang "ba kua" (barbequed meat)
i am loving it~! and then there were lots of new year gifts from mediacorp, other co blah blah...
mostly alot of "jade" plants which they called it, money tree!
hmmz... realised something too, even in such a small co, there is internal politics!
six people only worz... =.=
Looking forward to CNY, dreading it at the same time
Going back on Saturday. Yay! At least I don't have to be here for the weekend, if I go back in my friend's car. Lalala~~ I realised that the Delete key on my keyboard is not working. Uh-oh..should I inform someone? But who?
And I realised something worst. Files cleared from the recycle bin today will come back and stay put tomorrow. Darn, and I typed my blog entry on a word document before pasting them on blogger. That means my file (though deleted) will be there permanently. *faints* I learnt my lesson.
(I've told this to pw and she's got enough of me already!!) Hey, my supervisor is a young and cool chap. :D And from the news that I dug from my colleague over lunch just now, he's about 30plus. If I did not hear wrongly. And he came by and discussed some matters with another colleague and from the conversation, I analysed that he is still single~~ either that, he is attached but not married. Hahaha (Oh! The delete key is working again!) Pw has had enough of my nonsense already. :P I think she is plainly ignoring me in msn because of this. Ha ha. Cannot blame her.
I think my office ain't bad. 2 floors, downstairs (my office) has 2 lookers to keep me entertained. upstairs there's a gyu who is in the creatives who is quite good-looking. Flaw: he smokes. My challenge of finding ONE person in the office who does NOT smoke (except me) is getting harder by days. Even the receptionist smokes. What pressure could she be under? I don't understand.
Right. 'Nuff about my nonsense, eh? I do agree with pw that we should all look ahead and not look back. I believe that we should "Not dwell in the past. Focus on the present. And hope for the future." We look back, but with fond memories. Not look back and dwell in it. If that is the case, we may lose what we have now and our future may look bleak and far away. Consequently, we lose the fighting spirit and we lose the battle. Ok, maybe not that serious but then the message is there la.
Look on the bright side. FY, your company may be strict and has high employee turnover. But come think of it, people quits=vacancy=one more chance for you! See? Instead of thinking how bad this can get and etc, think from another side, another angle.
I hope to hear more from princess ma nee and minah who has been sucked into the deepest corner of their company for god-knows-what-reasons. Yeah?

wah...
i think... the company i've been sent to has a pretty good environment... yup... so in some ways, i'm pretty lucky despite the fact that i have to spent a good time feeling frustrated when trying to converse in chinese... But the super frequent overtime is really frightening sia.. just today itself, i'd stayed till almost 10pm... kinda felt my life being eaten away! i mean, while in the office at around 9pm, i was thinking "gosh... this is sick... i'd be back here in less than 12 hours.." just go home and sleep and go back to work... haiZ... whd venturing in working life mean giving up much of our personal time? i guess so..... and it feels kinda sad....
the other thing about working life is the rate of my allowances diminishing... i have collected enough Burger King coupons to allow me to live on $2.95 value meal through this week! sheesh! i sure hope the coupon distributing old lady will be there in future so i can top up my coupon supplies... Meanwhile i am planning on sneaking cup noodles from home and living on the company's chinese new year goodies... (we have bagua!) ...
looking at my 0% done portfolio (there's nothing to look at.) and the high chances of overtime tomorrow..... haiZ... bleak future sia..
