A big G'Day to the cuts-in-singapore!
As you can see, I have arrived safely despite my air-sickness, :), only to discover how cold Perth is. Brrrr... Somehow, locals and some students who hail from places like Ohio, Germany and London think our current weather (4-20C) is hot; makes you wonder what kind of hide they've got on.
Perth is small. Well, the city is, at least. My uni is divided into three (or four? i can't remember) campuses and the campus I'm at is the one nearest to Perth's CBD. It's like living at Tanjong Pagar's outskirts and you've got main shopping districts and chinatown - yeah they have a chinatown too - within bus distances.
Food is slightly more expensive here, but with much larger portions so I guess the cost of living does not differ much from Singapore. It's a different story for some of my friends who come from Malaysia and Hong Kong though, for the Australia currency is 3x that of Malaysia's, and about 5x of Hong Kong. Gosh. So for a lunchbox that costs $5 here (S$6.50) would be RM14 and about an arm and two legs in Hong Kong currency. Imagine that!
On campus, despite the beatiful United Nations environment, Asians generally bond together and do not mix with locals or other caucasians for example, Norweigians (sp) and Americans. It's not because we are an unfriendly lot, the divide just happens that way. Even the way we're grouped in the Student Village - we've got our own Chinatown and Masaleh town. If you happen to see an Asian hanging out with a Masaleh, there's a high chance that Asian is of Gwailo background. That's truth.
Anyway, so far so good! It's definitely an improvement from Singapore, except for the fact that we have to walk a hell lot and the weather's too cold. :)
Tuesday's the Convocation I will be missing. You all better take a lot of photos ah. That's an order!!! Oh, I have not forgotten, Happy 30th, Cellmate!
